New Economies: moving from the margins to the mainstream was a day of economic thinking and practice in Rotterdam, hosted by Partners for a New Economy (P4NE). It brought together 180 thinkers, change-makers, funders and organisations working to create economies fit for all people and the planet. P4NE is an international philanthropic fund focused on redesigning our economy so that nature and all people flourish. It was founded in 2015 by the MAVA, Oak, Marisla and KR Foundations to address the root causes of environmental degradation within our economic system.

Primary lockup

The goal of the event was to cultivate stronger connections across diverse movements, geographies, and disciplines promoting the sharing of ideas and ultimately inspiring progress.

The design approach focuses on this interconnectedness, highlighting the importance of innovative thinking as a driving force behind impactful change. Visually, this comes to life as assemblages of type and images overlapping in flexible, organic formations.

Symbolising P4NE’s role as facilitator for new connections, the organisation’s Nautilus icon is deconstructed into image frames within a flexible layout system. These frames contain abstracted imagery that represents the variety of voices and influences – such as nature, people, and pollination – which all play a vital role in shaping new economic ideas.

The graphic system provides flexibility and allows for each touchpoint to be visually distinct. This design approach is highly versatile across different media, such as print and animated digital content, always maintaining a simple and unrefined style that reflects the essence of the world’s best ideas – straightforward and impactful.
