Margrit Hasler is a classically trained jazz instrumentalist who has performed in world-renowned orchestras including the Philharmonia Zurich and the Royal Opera, London. She is also an experienced educator highly regarded for her knowledge and expertise, having taught at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama. Most recently touring with folk and contemporary jazz groups, her latest project is a solo venture for viola with loop and pitch shift pedals.

Margrit’s visceral and multifaceted performances are built around a series of loops which layer and repeat to create distinct soundscapes of varying length and complexity, drawing on a rich array of influences and structures.

The visual identity is based on these loops, which are notated using a grid system and then standardised into a 2:1 rectangular frame to create a unique graphic tile for each track. These tiles are used throughout the identity, appearing individually and as recursive patterns, resulting in hypnotic visuals that are rhythmically aligned with each track.

The layout system takes these loops as its basic unit, forming the basis of the grid onto which graphic elements can be stacked and scaled in dynamic yet ordered compositions. The grid is also the foundation for the construction of a set of logos for Margrit.

The primary typeface is Span Condensed. Taking inspiration from serifs often used in classical music notation, the letterforms are a subtle reference to the sculptural form of the viola whilst blending the contemporary and traditional.
